A Center for Shipping
Greater Philadelphia is located along the Delaware River, making it an ideal, thriving gateway of international trade.
The Delaware River Port Complex, one of the largest freshwater ports in the world, includes modern, full-service docking facilities in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and generates $19 billion in annual economic activity.
The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA) is the number one perishables port on the East Coast. The Port of Camden, the nation’s top port for wood products, receives hundreds of ships moving international and domestic cargo annually. The Port of Wilmington is the top North American port for fresh fruit, bananas and fruit concentrates as well as the largest dock-side cold storage facility. PRPA and South Jersey Port Corporation (SJPC) form the core of Greater Philadelphia international port system. In 2007, PRPA welcomed the world’s second largest shipping company – Mediterranean Shipping Company – as a new operator in the port. |
