  • Osstem Co. Ltd., a South Korean firm that manufacturers dental implants has purchased 28 acres and will invest over $70 million in a new manufacturing facility at the Keystone Industrial Port Complex (KIPC) in Bucks County. The company anticipates creating 600 jobs over the next five years.
  • AppTec, a Philadelphia CMO, was recently acquired by Wuxi Pharmatech of China. Now called Wuxi AppTec Inc., they are expanding their facilities in Philadelphia to focus on biologics. Wuxi offers comprehensive, fully integrated, GLP/GMP-compliant discovery, testing and contract manufacturing services - with global capabilities and capacities - for pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, cellular therapeutics, medical devices, and tissue-based products.
  • Incyte, Wilmington, DE, a drug-discovery and development company focused on building a product pipeline of novel small molecule drugs, is currently developing a once-daily oral treatment for HIV.
  • Avid Radiopharmaceuticals, Inc., Philadelphia, PA, raised almost $35 million in venture funding during 2007 to develop diagnostic imaging agents for advancing compounds targeting neurological disorders. In June 2007, Avid licensed to Bayer AG, a molecular imaging agent, which targets the amyloid plaques in the brain that accompany Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Centocor, Malvern, PA, developed REMICADE®, the world's only monoclonal antibody approved for Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Cephalon, Frazer, PA, only the ninth biotechnology company to achieve $1 billion in revenue, is developing first-in-class compounds to treat neurological and sleep disorders, cancer, and pain.
  • Medarex, Inc., Princeton, NJ, is utilizing its UltiMab® technology to develop a broad range of fully human antibody therapeutics to treat life-threatening and debilitating diseases, including cancer, inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases.
  • Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Collegeville, PA, discovered BeneFix®, the first drug using recombinant technology to control and prevent hemophilia B.
